ATUS Initiative: Women’s Collaboration for Africa’s Energy Future The African Turkish United Sisterhood (ATUS) came together in Istanbul, led by AWEaP (African Women in Energy and Power) and the Green-Collar Women’s Association, to develop solutions for Africa’s energy needs and to strengthen gender equality.

Between August 31 – September 2, 2023, at the Solar+Storage NextGen Expo, the event hosted 27 women representatives from Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zambia. During the opening, Bertha Dlamini (AWEaP) emphasized the importance of this gathering for women entrepreneurs’ access to clean technologies.

Sedef Budak (GCWA) emphasized that women’s empowerment should go hand in hand with the pursuit of sustainable and accessible energy goals. During the dinner sponsored by Smart Solar Technologies, knowledge was shared on solar energy and storage systems.
ATUS aims to increase women’s participation in the energy sector by fostering collaborations among the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society. The program covers areas such as mentoring, skills development, awareness campaigns, and project development.
